Choosing the right inspection company the first time out is a challenge. The phone book has a lengthy list and finding the best among the list requires patience. We encourage a service choice based on information gathering at this stage as a mistake can cost you plenty. Most often, we have to sell our service to new clients over the phone. Don’t hesitate to ask us for references. We have the great fortune of provide services to clients who used other service providers and were not impressed.
Inspecting a property is not an easy task. It is nothing short of a physical examination in 3 hours what otherwise should take 8 using 6 different disciplines. A single individual must have the keen skills of a detective, the precision of an engineer, the talents of an electrician, plumber and HVAC technician, the knowledge of a contractor and the verbal and writing skills to convey valuable information to the client. The mastery of this profession takes a long time to learn. New comers to this field are overwhelmed at the amount of information one must retain to be competent.
During the course of an inspection, our job is to educate the client on the strengths and weaknesses of there particular property. There are no perfect properties. Even new builds can have issues. Rarely do properties have the warning signs that signal problems. We have the skills necessary to find the clues that signal trouble, the knowledge to assess the problem, and the documentation to provide insight and guidance on what corrective action is needed. We try not to overstate or understate the magnitude of the issue.
Although we have been round and round about on-site reporting, we choose not to issue reports at the inspection site. On-site reporting is typically filled with boilerplate jargon that is not valuable to our clients. We would rather spend that valuable time with the client instead of rushing to the vehicle and generating a report. Reporting at the office allows time to absorb what was seen or to change an opinion after some thought, research or discussion with a client over a concern.
